Masking Technique

This technique can be used for a variety of Crafts. Below is a use for Rubberstamping or Block
Printing
Rubberstamping---- Masking Technique
Materials needed:
---Rubber Stamp of choice
---"Post-it" notes or any other thin piece of paper
---Ink Pad
--- Card or postcard to stamp on
---Scissors
General Definition: Masking is covering up one image so you can stamp another one partially
on top of it. This makes it look like the second image is behind the first one.
Procedure:
1) Stamp an image on your paper.
2) Then, without re-inking, stamp again on the post it note, being sure to stamp at least a portion
of the image on the part of the "post-it" that has the sticky part on the back.
3) Now cut out the image from the "Post-It" note, cutting just inside the outline. This is your MASK.
4) Place the Mask on top of the image you stamped on the paper. Stamp another image on top
of the first one. (Do it a little to the side of the first.)
5) Remove the Mask, and there you have it! You have an image behind an image!
TIP: You can keep masking and stamping and make a whole card with it. Angels behind angels,
lots of kids, lots of trees for a forest, fruits, pumpkins, people inside tubs, or behind windows.
More TIPS:-------
A) It is very important that you cut the mask INSIDE of the lines.. If you don't, then you end up
with a blank spot around your images. That blank spot is called a "Halo".
B) If you don't have "post it notes" then use a thin sheet of paper to make your masks. Do not
use thick cardstock to make your masks because then the image will not stamp well on your cards
and you probably have the "halos" (blank spots) showing.
